*SOLD OUT*

Join us for our 2nd 'Spoon Making Workshop - with Jasper Murphy'!

Expertly guided, participants will embrace Jaspers hand tool methods to produce a simple wooden spoon. – it is the makers choice to create the final size and shape of their spoon.

Jasper is well-known Gisborne based maker who uses centuries old traditional methods, and only hand or foot powered tools, to build a range of beautiful products including his sought-after hand-crafted chairs.

In relation to his chair making, Jasper says;

“The thrill and challenge of taking a log from a freshly cut tree and transforming it into a finished chair, with only the aid of hand and foot powered tools is immensely satisfying. The construction techniques I use are those used by artisan chair makers prior to the industrial revolution. I admire their utilisation of the natural properties of wood and the few simple tools used to construct the light, flexible yet strong, chairs that could withstand daily use on often uneven floors. Splitting a log open reveals its hidden history of growth and grain pattern development. An open mind is required at this point in the process as these formations can often determine the type or style of chair it is best suited to.”

This will be a hands on workshop with all materials supplied.
